Planet B’s second LP has been a long time in the making. Obviously, over this span of time, there has been an almost unimaginable amount of surreality and insanity to pull from when creating the band’s unique hip-hop-punk-meets-sci-fi-horror-movie sonic aesthetic. As always, the sound is as confrontational as it is catchy, the lyrics scathing and the beats bizarre. Earworms abound. As with the band’s first release, there are a host of guest collaborations on the various tracks, from Josie Cotton to David Scott Stone (ex-LCD Soundsystem, Melvins), D-Styles (Invisibl Skratch Piklz), and more. Perhaps most personally meaningful are the instrumental contributions from Gabe Serbian (The Locust) and Eric Livingston (Mamaleek), both family to the band, who have each passed on from this dimension and back to whatever radical planet they came from since the creation of the album.

lyrics

Flush to judgement, the shits a hint.
Touch fingerprint, shit’s not gourmet.
Make mom and dad, so sad so sad.
Choices are bad, they have no say.
Stupid enough, not dumb enough.
Pretend tough stuff, fuck off all day.
Go cry and cry, to amplify.
Buy and go bye, dial foul play.
Good luck at jail, aren’t we for sale?
Just don’t inhale, it’s so cliche.
Out of business, it’s shit and piss.
Then reminisce, burn cash per say.
Wrong way
Birthday is just death day delayed.
Dumb prey
Death day is just birthday unpaid.
Planet full of followers, no direction.
Nothing is sacred, everything accepted
Unlearned lessons, misplaced aggression.
Divided and conquered, the revolution on its deathbed.
Who will lead us, we eat what the tube feeds us, while politicians whippin’ in luxury two-seaters.
Trying to tell us that slavery is the new leisure.
We pray to influencers as if they the new Jesus.
Preach, what’s inherited by the meek when the damage that we do is at an all time peak.
Peace, these days it seems out of reach, hate will captivate us Like a Dr. King speech.
Sheesh, uncharted waters too deep, I pity the living, they all know they all deceased.
Game, I got no time to play, cause birthday is death day delayed.
Can new trash throw old trash away?
All saints stop at four play. So hey!
Crying foul play just gets sick pay.
They stay so sad all day, all day.
Now search and annoy just like a cowboy.
Fuck a dumb decoy, pay for a replay.
Seek and then destroy, break like a B-Boy.
Opps got P-noid, mind in a weak state.
Got lightest loafers, heaviest high heels.
Who wants to obey? Fuck it, just betray.
Heart full of deep hate, change is a cheap date.
But it’s too high of a price for a cheap date.
Structurally stupid, broke head’s got no lid.
Humor impaired prey can lead us astray.
Tryna stay focused, shit’s looking hopeless.
Broken with no fix, yo, I’m on my own shit.

about

Planet B

Justin Pearson, Luke Henshaw, Kevin Avery, and Scott Osment formed Planet B with the shared purpose of creating music subversive in sound and sobering in message. Their music lays somewhere just out of reach of genre, with aesthetics rooted in hip hop, hardcore punk, turntablism, and 70s-80s horror movie scores. It is catchy, heavily percussive, and eerie all at once. ... more
